About me

Who is Genie?

Your orientation consultant in Shanghai

I was born in Hong Kong and came to Shanghai in July 2011 as an expatriate for a European digital marketing agency. I never had the plan to stay in this city for this long. Yet, the changes, the growth, and the opportunities here are all fascinating.

I am fluent in speaking Mandarin, English, and Cantonese. I have worked in the creative and digital marketing industry throughout my career. In 2021, I quit my full-time position and started my entrepreneurship. Currently, I enjoy bringing my expertise, knowledge, resources and connections to clients who have strong trust in my capabilities, and I realized my versatile skills could achieve much more than being a full-time employee.

Embracing the opportunities to meet so many different people in this melting pot, I have a global citizen mindset, with other people’s cultures, religions, political views, and diversities in mind. Living here for more than a decade also means I am well connected to different circles and networks, which equipped me to become a facilitator who connects the dots. I encountered 50+ nationalities with different backgrounds in my personal and work life, and I am well-traveled in Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania.

As a digital marketer, I am very tech savvy and keep myself up-to-date with various sources and topics. My passion and curiosity have kept me up with the speed of Shanghai city.

I enjoy traveling, driving, photography, playing music, cooking, and tasting different kinds of cuisine during my free time.

Why orientation consultant?

13 years ago, I arrived in the wonderful city of Shanghai.

Though work sponsored my relocation, I was a stranger in a strange land. I developed various skills with my curiosity, balancing being in Mainland China and travelling the world. I realised my superpower could become a bridge between many expats and the local culture and activities in Shanghai.

Life in China is just different!

As I reflect on the past, I realize that I wish I had known then what I know now. I wish I had known how to navigate the everyday details of life in this new city and how to use various tools to discover services and experiences that I had never encountered before, apart from my time in Shanghai. Through all the lessons I've learned and continue to learn, my knowledge and language abilities can definitely help someone who is new to the area and looking to settle in.

I began offering my services for exactly this reason: to help those new here with the benefit of my years of knowledge. Whether you need help finding an apartment, setting up your phone, subscribing to international television or internet services, or want to know the best places to find local cuisine, I focus on your needs to help make your transition to your new home as smooth and stress-free as possible.
