FAQs

What services do you offer?

1

I offer private guiding, customized itinerary planning, and high-touch concierge support for visitors and newcomers to Shanghai. My work goes beyond sightseeing — I help you navigate the city smoothly, confidently, and comfortably, with local insight and real-time support throughout your stay.

What’s the difference between itinerary planning and private guiding?

2

Itinerary planning focuses on research, structure, and recommendations before your trip. This includes sharing tips and information such as VPN usage and digital payment setup, with the goal of removing anxiety and saving time spent researching the unknown. Every itinerary is built from scratch based on your interests, pace, and travel style. I don’t use fixed routes or templates — each plan is tailored specifically to you.

I usually take the time to review each request and am keen to schedule a call on WhatsApp or FaceTime so we have a chance to learn about each other and how I can assist you as best I can.

Private guiding means I’m with you on the ground — adapting plans in real time, handling logistics, and offering local insight throughout the day. Many guests choose to combine both for a seamless experience.

How far in advance should I book?

3

Ideally, 2–4 weeks in advance, especially during peak travel seasons. That said, I understand plans can change quickly and will always let you know honestly if I can accommodate a last-minute request.

What languages are your tours conducted in?

4

My guiding services are conducted primarily in English and Cantonese.

English is my strongest working language, and I guide fluently and naturally, similar to a native speaker. Cantonese is my mother tongue, and some guests specifically book my service for this reason. I can also converse fluently in Mandarin, but guiding in Mandarin is currently still outside my comfort zone due to my accent.

If English or Cantonese is not ideal for your group, I can help source other language-speaking licensed guides, such as French or German, to execute the tour. Please note that:

  • Availability depends on the guide and dates

  • Rates may vary

  • The tour will be delivered by the assigned guide, not by me personally

  • While I work with trusted professionals, guiding style and quality may differ

I’m always happy to discuss language needs in advance so we can determine the best setup for your visit.

Can you help if I/We don’t speak Chinese?

5

Yes. Supporting guests through language and cultural barriers is a core part of my service. From everyday interactions to reservations and logistics, I help ensure communication is smooth and stress-free.

Do you offer half-day tours?

6

I no longer offer half-day tours.
When you book my guiding service, you are reserving my full professional availability for the day.

Even if we spend fewer hours together, the preparation, planning, responsibility, and opportunity cost remain the same. This approach allows me to maintain consistent quality, focus, and flexibility without rushing or over-scheduling.

What exactly is included in the day rate?

7

The day rate covers my professional guiding service, including:

  • On-the-ground guidance and coordination

  • Local insight, interpretation, and problem-solving

  • Full-day availability reserved exclusively for you

It reflects the scope and responsibility of the service, not an hourly calculation.

Is private transportation included in the day rate?

8

No — private transportation is not included in the day rate.

My guiding fee covers my professional services only. Transportation needs vary widely depending on itinerary, distance, group size, and duration, so vehicles and drivers are always handled separately.

If you would like private transportation, I can:

  • Arrange a trusted driver

  • Coordinate airport transfers or full-day use

  • Provide clear, upfront pricing based on your actual needs

This ensures transparency and allows you to choose the level of comfort and flexibility that best suits your trip.

Yes. I assist with shopping experiences ranging from local brands and design shops to tailoring, speciality markets, and hard-to-navigate retail areas. I can also help order anything available for delivery to your hotel address, if you book me as your local concierge.
